President of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska, Dr. Nenad Stevandic, stated that Vidovdan is not just a date in history, but a deeply emotional and symbolic day for the Serbian people, known for awakening dignity, unity, and national pride.

“In the past, before modern technology, our elders used to pass down stories about the heroes who defended us, shaped our identity, and sacrificed everything for our survival. Vidovdan served as a reminder of who we are and what we stand for,” Stevandic said in a video message posted to social media platforms.

He expressed concern that today, instead of being a time of remembrance and pride, some are trying to turn Vidovdan into a symbol of internal conflict and division.

“What kind of person uses Vidovdan to call for violence against their own country, their own police? What sort of twisted logic fuels those who aim to tear apart their cities and streets—while voices, openly or secretly aligned with fascist ideas, suggest assassinating the president of Serbia, whose own family narrowly survived the horrors of Ustasha crimes?” Stevandic asked.

He also criticized those who, instead of teaching the younger generations how to build, defend, and sustain their country, promote its collapse and destruction.

“But let one thing be clear—Vidovdan has always stood as a shield of honor, and it won’t allow those driven by hatred to misuse its name and symbols to turn against their own people. Vidovdan is for those who love their homeland, who seek unity and peace, who act with courage, clean hearts, and calm minds. Long live solidarity, and may it once again defeat every threat we face,” Stevandic concluded.
