Milos Pavlovic, a student at the Faculty of Medicine and representative of the group “Studenti 2.0,” announced today that the group is demanding regular classes resume at all faculties by Sunday, June 1. If not, they will begin a hunger strike.
Speaking to reporters from Pionirski Park—where students who “want to study” have been camping for several months—Pavlovic called on the President of Serbia, the Prime Minister, the Speaker of Parliament, and the Minister of Education to uphold their constitutionally guaranteed rights.
“We’re giving our final deadline—Sunday, June 1. This is the last chance we’re offering because we’ve exhausted all other options. There’s nowhere else for us to turn,” Pavlovic stated.
He added that if their three demands are not met by that date, he will call on fellow students to join him in a hunger strike.
According to Pavlovic, their first demand is that all universities in Serbia resume regular classes by Sunday. The second is the immediate launch of moral, disciplinary, and criminal proceedings against those responsible for obstructing their constitutional rights, including the right to education and freedom of movement.
“Our third demand is to put an end, once and for all, to the fascist attacks against us—threats to remove or eliminate us, calling us mentally ill simply because we want to be educated,” he said.
Pavlovic stressed that the students are in Pionirski Park “completely legally and legitimately” and said they will remain there and go on a hunger strike until someone finally takes notice.
