Italian Ambassador in Belgrade, Luca Gori, expressed today that Italy holds the strongest conviction within the European Union regarding the need to accelerate the EU enlargement process for the Western Balkans region, including Serbia.
In an interview with Tanjug, Gori acknowledged the frustration in Serbia surrounding the EU enlargement process. However, he noted that a renewed momentum for enlargement has emerged in Brussels, from which, he believes, Serbia stands to benefit.
“The enlargement process is back on the agenda, and I sincerely hope that Serbia can take advantage of this opportunity by implementing the necessary reforms to accelerate the process,” the ambassador stated.
Reflecting on the 145th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Belgrade and Rome, as well as the 15th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Strategic Friendship, Gori highlighted that Serbia and Italy share a deeply strategic and dynamic friendship.
This relationship is built on active political dialogue, robust economic cooperation, and a strong cultural foundation.
