US President Donald Trump has commented on a viral video showing French First Lady Brigitte Macron appearing to shove or lightly slap her husband Emmanuel Macron aboard their plane, saying the French president is “fine” and quipping, “Make sure the door remains closed.”

The footage, which surfaced as the Macrons landed in Hanoi, Vietnam, on May 25 for a tour of Southeast Asia, shows Emmanuel Macron speaking to someone off-camera as the airplane door opens. Suddenly, a pair of red-sleeved arms — later revealed to be Brigitte’s — reach out, momentarily covering his mouth and jaw. Macron steps back, smiles at the cameras, and waves. Brigitte then appears beside him. When Macron offers his arm, she declines, and the pair descend the stairs together.

When asked Friday if he had any marital advice for Macron, Trump quipped about the aircraft door incident before reassuring reporters: “He’s fine, they’re fine. They’re two really good people I know very well. I don’t know what that was all about.”

Macron downplayed the moment, telling reporters that it was nothing more than the couple “having fun.”

The French president also addressed two other viral clips that have recently fueled online speculation. In one video, recorded during a train trip to Ukraine alongside UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Macron was seen subtly hiding a small object, prompting baseless rumors of drug use — which the Élysée Palace firmly denied.

Another widely shared video from the European Political Community summit in Albania shows Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan gripping Macron’s finger in an unusual gesture, which some interpreted as a deliberate power move.

Macron confirmed all three clips were authentic but brushed off the narratives built around them. “A lot of lunatics are spending their days interpreting all these videos,” he said.

Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron have been married since 2007. The two met while he was a student at the high school where she was teaching. Brigitte is 24 years his senior.
