Turkey and Qatar signed multiple agreements on Thursday, covering areas such as trade facilitation, military, and technical cooperation, during a visit by Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani to Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara. The two leaders co-chaired the Turkey-Qatar High Strategic Committee meeting.
Sheikh Tamim’s visit, which emphasized investment and trade, followed Doha’s announcement over the weekend that it would pause mediation efforts for a Gaza ceasefire and hostage release deal until both Hamas and Israel demonstrate willingness and seriousness.
Turkey, which has strongly criticized Israel’s military actions in Gaza and Lebanon, does not consider the Palestinian militant group Hamas a terrorist organization. Some Hamas political officials frequently visit Turkey.
