The United Kingdom has urged Ukraine’s allies to launch a “50-day campaign of intensified arms deliveries” to strengthen Kyiv’s military and pressure Moscow into peace talks before the deadline set by U.S. President Donald Trump.
Last week, Trump issued a 50-day ultimatum to Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the war in Ukraine or face tough new sanctions, vowing a major increase in weapons support to Kyiv with NATO coordination and European financial backing.
During a virtual meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, British Defense Secretary John Healy described Trump’s ultimatum as “a moment of maximum opportunity.”
The Contact Group, co-chaired by the UK and Germany, includes around 50 nations that support Ukraine’s military efforts.
“In return, we must escalate our efforts with a 50-day surge in arms deliveries to Ukraine’s front lines and help bring Putin to the negotiating table,” Healy stated.
Healy added that London and Berlin had agreed to jointly supply air defense missiles to Ukraine.
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius confirmed both countries will provide 200,000 rounds of ammunition for the Gepard anti-aircraft tanks currently used by Ukrainian forces.
In recent weeks, Russia has launched a series of large-scale air strikes across Ukraine, including a Sunday night attack on Kyiv that killed one person and injured two, according to local authorities.
The UK has already delivered £150 million (€173.2 million) worth of air defense missiles and artillery rounds to Ukraine over the past two months, according to the British Ministry of Defense.
London has pledged to allocate £700 million (€808.2 million) this year for ammunition procurement and to supply additional drones, which have become a critical component of the battlefield.
Ukraine has received approximately 50,000 drones in the last six months, with another 20,000 to be delivered by a coalition of countries led by the UK and Latvia.
