A Ukrainian drone strike in Russia’s Kaluga region caused a fire at an industrial site, regional authorities reported early Monday. Ukrainian sources claimed the attack targeted a defense plant and an oil depot.
Kaluga Governor Vladislav Shapsha confirmed a fire broke out at an “industrial enterprise” following the strike, but did not disclose the facility’s identity. He later stated that the fire had been extinguished.
Unverified videos circulating on social media showed a massive blaze lighting up the night sky, allegedly in Kaluga.
Andriy Kovalenko, head of Ukraine’s disinformation countermeasures center, asserted that the strike hit the Typhoon instrument-making plant. This facility is sanctioned by the EU for producing weapons used by the Russian military, including Bal-E and Rubezh-ME missile systems.
Additionally, Ukraine’s HUR military intelligence agency reportedly targeted Rosneft’s Kaluganefteprodukt oil depot, according to RBC-Ukraine, citing anonymous sources.
The Moscow Times noted it could not independently verify these claims.
Russia’s military claimed its air defense systems destroyed 23 Ukrainian drones over Kaluga. Drones were also intercepted in the Kursk, Bryansk, and Belgorod regions, which border Ukraine.
Separately, Telegram channels linked to Russian law enforcement alleged that Ukraine fired U.S.-supplied ATACMS missiles at a military airfield in the Kursk region. Neither Kyiv nor Moscow has confirmed the missile strikes.
