President of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) and advisor to the President on regional matters, Milos Vucevic, announced that the party will not hold any political event on Vidovdan (June 28), despite earlier suggestions from President Aleksandar Vucic. The decision comes in response to protests planned by opposition groups for the same day, with the intention of avoiding any clashes or tensions.

Vucevic explained during a national TV interview that the government had no intention of organizing a counter-rally. “This is a clear case of the opposition reversing the narrative. Back in March, President Vucic mentioned the idea of launching the ‘Movement for the People and the State’ on Vidovdan. Now, opposition groups are pretending they picked the date first, accusing us of planning a provocation.”

To avoid unnecessary provocations or confusion, the SNS has decided to postpone its gathering. “Whether we hold it on July 5, June 27, or some other date is yet to be agreed. We’ll discuss it with President Vucic and set the schedule accordingly,” Vucevic stated, emphasizing that SNS is ready to support the movement but refuses to allow anyone to spread violence or unrest among the citizens.

He stressed that student safety remains a priority and warned against any attempts to stir conflict between citizens, particularly on a day as symbolic as Vidovdan. “Serbs must not be divided, especially not on a day of such historical importance — a day tied to both sacrifice and betrayal.”

Asked whether he believes a resolution to the ongoing political crisis is still possible, Vucevic responded affirmatively but said dialogue only works if all parties are genuinely willing to talk. “I firmly believe this attempted ‘colored revolution’ will not succeed. Political tensions exist in every society, and Serbia is no exception.”

He emphasized that the government’s priority is returning focus to economic growth, increasing salaries and pensions, and preparing for the coming academic year and winter energy demands. “We need to ensure graduates can enroll in universities smoothly and that we’re ready for global energy price shifts due to ongoing international conflicts.”

Regarding Expo 2027, Vucevic reiterated its strategic importance. “Expo isn’t just a one-location event — it’s a project to uplift the entire country.”

He also pointed out that the Serbian Parliament is expected to pass several key laws soon, including the recently adopted Child Support Fund, which ensures financial protection for single-parent households.

Reflecting on President Vucic’s recent visit to a young family in Novi Knezevac who used government housing subsidies, Vucevic said, “That’s a real example of how state support can make a difference.”

“We must learn from the past several months and start building a better future — not just economically, but also spiritually and culturally. It’s time for a fresh chapter,” he concluded.
