SNS leader Milos Vucevic addressed the public following the party’s election victories in Kosjeric and Zajecar, congratulating both the citizens and party members for what he described as a major success under extraordinary and difficult circumstances.

“This is something we’ve never seen before — a situation where citizens were barely able to exercise their right to vote without obstacles,” he said at the beginning of his statement.

Vucevic condemned the actions of opposition supporters during the election period, claiming their behavior surpassed anything seen even during the turbulent 1990s. “What we witnessed yesterday — blockades, occupation of public spaces, disruption of our campaign efforts — we didn’t even face that during the 90s. We were denied the basic right to campaign normally, to knock on doors without fear. There were physical attacks, our activists were chased, and our events were obstructed. The scale of election silence violations was unprecedented. They continued campaigning when it was legally forbidden and actively tried to prevent voters from reaching polling stations. Even our election headquarters were targeted.”

Despite what he described as extreme intimidation and chaos, Vucevic called the election outcome a “remarkable result,” calling it a “huge win in conditions we’ve never dealt with before.”

In Zajecar, the SNS list won 14,199 votes — 47.12 percent — securing 27 out of 50 seats in the local assembly, enough to form a majority. He noted that the opposition list “Changes We Believe In” received 34.22 percent, while “United for Zajecar” gained 4 seats. He highlighted the strong voter turnout at 63.64 percent and emphasized that SNS had gained 4,000 more votes compared to the 2021 local elections.

Speaking about Kosjeric, he described the win as narrow but clean. “All 29 polling station reports were signed by all participating parties. It was a close margin, but that’s democracy,” he stated. With a voter turnout of 84.19 percent, SNS received 3,686 votes, accounting for 50.01 percent of the total. The “United for Kosjeric” list received 49.32 percent. “We improved our result from the 2023 elections by about 700 votes,” he added.

Vucevic also stated he expects international observers like ODIHR to closely monitor the events and that legal actions will be taken against those who violated electoral laws. He concluded by saying that SNS would reflect on the entire process and draw necessary lessons from this election.
