Prime Minister of Serbia, Milos Vucevic, emphasized today that by the end of the week, the public could expect new information regarding the resignations related to the Novi Sad railway station tragedy.
“This is not a matter of a race against time, or fulfilling some norm. Certainly, when we talk about it, we’re talking about short time frames. These decisions are made with a cool head and cannot be driven by emotions, which are certainly present. I believe that the decisions we make do not mean that something is just being technically ‘handled’, but that it is a decision regarding objective political responsibility,” Vucevic said, adding that, like President of the Republic, he would like to request that, respecting the independence of the prosecutorial function, the competent prosecutor’s office provide information on the progress of the investigation so that the public in Serbia can be reassured that the prosecutor’s office is actively working on the case.
Vucevic also pointed out that a big question remains whether the collapse of the canopy was due to some action or inaction, or if it was a combination of both.
“This is not a political issue, it requires a technical analysis. Certainly, someone is to blame. Someone must be criminally responsible. It will not be easy for the prosecutor’s office. The prosecutor’s office must clarify the status of the investigation. I believe that 36 people have been questioned. It will be two weeks on Friday since the tragedy occurred. We will discuss political responsibility, which is not subjective, in the coming days,” the Prime Minister concluded.
