Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic posted photos on his official Instagram account this morning with leaders from multiple countries ahead of the COP29 Climate Summit in Baku, where he will be one of the speakers.

“Today at COP29, I am discussing sustainable solutions with global leaders and experts to reduce harmful emissions, protect natural resources, and adapt to climate challenges. We live in a time of great challenges, catastrophic global warming, and climate change that poses a threat to our shared future. That’s why the #COP29 Summit is an excellent opportunity for countries to strengthen their climate goals and demonstrate concrete steps towards ecological sustainability,” read the post on the official Instagram profile of Serbia’s President. The post featured photos of Vucic with Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, and BiH Presidency member Zeljka Cvijanovic.

Today, President Vucic also met with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko at the Baku Olympic Stadium ahead of the official opening of the COP29 Climate Summit.

During the summit, President Vucic will hold a series of meetings and, following the official opening, will speak at the conference as the second speaker. On the first day in Baku, Vucic met with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to discuss energy cooperation, and he also had a meeting with UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, which he described as excellent.

World leaders will gather today at the COP29 Climate Summit in Baku, hosted by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who will welcome all participants and then address the opening ceremony at the “Baku” Olympic Stadium.

Over 20 global officials will speak at the conference, including Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, who will be the second speaker after Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

Other speakers include Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Polish President Andrzej Duda, Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides, Slovak President Peter Pellegrini, European Council President Charles Michel, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, Jordanian King Abdullah II, Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, North Macedonian President Gordana Siljanovski-Davkova, Montenegrin President Jakov Milatovic, and BiH Presidency Chairman Denis Becirovic.

Vucic met with the host. Ahead of the summit, President Vucic discussed global issues and joint solutions with host Ilham Aliyev. They analyzed cooperation between the two countries, which has shown success in recent years, particularly in the energy sector.

Two key topics have emerged for COP29: how to secure financing for renewable energy sources or non-fossil fuels, and the critical question of how and with whom to proceed with small modular reactors without drawn-out timelines of 12 to 14 years. “You also need balancing energy for the world, and we must talk about that. We are unable to secure world peace, yet we are discussing funding,” Vucic said, adding that he would address this today.

Vucic noted that the situation regarding climate change is worsening.

“The climate has changed; people here are not used to rains lasting three days, they are unprepared, and neither is the rainwater drainage system. It’s a modern city, it looks amazing, but everything has changed,” Vucic stated.
