Mounting public frustration over ongoing university blockades has taken a new turn—Dean of the Faculty of Philology in Belgrade, Iva Draskic Vicanovic, has made the decision to expel student protesters from the university premises.

President Aleksandar Vucic recently predicted that the people of Serbia would soon stand up against the ongoing disruptions.

“There’s growing outrage among citizens—people have simply run out of patience,” Vucic stated.

But rather than weeks, it took only a couple of days for signs of that prediction to materialize.

Dean Draskic Vicanovic, once considered a vocal supporter of the protest movement, has now taken an unexpected step by clearing out the demonstrators from the faculty’s building.

Notably, she gave a speech at one of the protest rallies on February 5. Just a few months later, her stance has shifted dramatically.
