Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated today that only further international sanctions can compel Russia to accept a ceasefire, following a wave of Russian drone and missile strikes on Kyiv that left 15 people injured.

“Only additional sanctions targeting key sectors of the Russian economy will force Moscow to agree to a ceasefire,” Zelensky wrote on the social media platform X.

He added that Moscow is the primary reason the war continues to drag on.

The large-scale overnight attack on Kyiv came just ahead of the second phase of a record prisoner exchange between the two warring sides. Ukraine’s Air Force reported that it had shot down six Russian ballistic missiles and 245 drones during the night, with most of the assault concentrated on the capital.
